Women's Self-Defense Classes
Current Classes:
- Level I WSD Course -- Summer, 2007
A Level I WSD course will be offered to women in the Plattsmouth area this summer. If interested, please email the Nebraska Hapkido Association. In your email, please list if you would prefer daytime or evening classes. Your email does not commit you to a class, it merely allows us to contact you when the class meeting times are scheduled. - General Practice - 2 Saturdays per month, 10am to noon
Come and drill specific techniques, work with pads, targets, or the heavy bag, or just refine your form with the mirrors. Current students may work out for free. Non-students (with the instructor's permission) may attend the general practice sessions for $15 per month.
The Nebraska Hapkido Association, along with LifeArts - Howard Chiropractic, is available to present seminars of various types and lengths along with holding formal self-defense courses. As was said on the WSD objectives page, we would prefer that all women take the Level I WSD course--but we realize that many people will not commit the time necessary to achieve the objectives. As such, we are periodically asked to give seminars at various functions around Plattsmouth.
While general seminars are for everyone (unless otherwise advertised), all WSD Level courses are for women only.
Class and Seminar Descriptions:
| Course/Seminar | Description |
| Level I WSD Course: | This course designed as an intensive immersion into the mindset of self-defense and personal empowerment. Covering topics such as the interview process used by most human predators, the mindset of self-defense, and effective ways to evade and de-escalate situations, this course uses padded attacker training to give women necessary feedback so that they understand that their techniques are effective, and can be used spontaneously in adrenaline-charged situations. The classes meet twice a week for 2 hours each, with instruction in physical techniques, padded attacker scenarios, information about common types of attacks, and the interview process that criminals use to choose their victims, . It is open to women only, ages 16 and up. It is not a one-hour seminar containing information on how to carry pepper spray with an admonition to "never walk alone at night," but instead serious training for personal self-defense and empowerment. Please see our objectives page for more details on the objectives of the course. Tuition for the Level I course is $100 |
| Level II WSD Course: | The Level II course is a extension of the first course, with a greater emphasis on physical techniques, in particular ground positioning and escape. Only students who have gone through the Level I course are eligible to take the Level II course. The Level II course also explores the legal use of various tools to make self-defense more effective. The Level II course is an 8 week course, with classes meeting once a week. Tuition for the Level II course is $100 |
