Hapkido: The Art of Coordinated Power
Hapkido is a Korean martial art, with a focus on self-defense. Utilizing locks, throws, strikes, kicks, and weapons training,
Hapkido is an art taught to Korean Special Forces and the Korean Secret Service because it is incredibly effective for self-defense without regard to relative size
or strength. A fluid, circular style, Hapkido re-directs an attacker's force, allowing you to control an attacker's motion. For
some basic examples of Hapkido techniques, please take a look at the Hapkido Multimedia. Ages 15 and up.
Taekwondo: The Way of the Hand and Foot
Taekwondo is also a Korean art. Initially created by instructors trained in several different styles of Japanese karate, Taekwondo has become uniquely Korean with its emphasis on
kicking and mobile stances. Its movement builds strong, flexible, healthy bodies while serving as a focus for self-discipline and self-confidence. The style taught at the Nebraska Hapkido Association is Jidokwan Taekwondo. Jidokwan-style practitioners are known for their kicking combinations and their emphasis on powerful reverse punches. For
some basic examples of Taekwondo techniques and forms, please take a look at the Taekwondo Multimedia. Ages 12 and up.
Eagle System: Children's Martial Fundamentals
Want to start your child in a martial arts class? Help your child with self-development by allowing them to practice self-discipline and gain self-confidence? Yet you are worried that they are being taught to have punching and kicking as their first response to unknown situations? The Nebraska Hapkido Association has the solution: The Eagle System. The Eagle System is designed to directly teach the fundamental principles underlying many martial arts including balance, posture, structure, movement, and weight management. Your child will be able to practice the fundamentals that make a martial art effective, while learning self-control and gaining self-confidence. Ages 8 and up.
T'ai Chi Ch'uan: Chinese Art of Health and Wellness
Wishing to be in better shape, healthier, with better balance? Unsure about high-impact practice, preferring to
learn fluid, graceful, precise effective movement? Then Tai Chi is for you! T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a martial arts method for practicing whole-body health. It is a low-impact, relaxing system of movement that builds core muscles (for stability and balance) while increasing flexibility and exercising the cardiovascular system. Not only are there physical benefits, but studies have shown that the effects of daily stress are considerably lessened through the practice of Tai Chi. For
some simple examples of Tai Chi movement, please take a look at the Tai Chi Multimedia. For all ages.
Women's Self-Defense: Courses and Seminars
The Nebraska Hapkido Association offers various courses in the area of women's self-defense. From short one-time seminars to a comprehensive 10 week course to a weekly physical practice session, we offer a range of training opportunities to fit your needs. Smaller seminars concentrate on the self-defense mindset, while discussing effective comprehensive self-defense plans. Longer seminars include training and practice in physical techniques, while stressing awareness and avoidance. The 10 week course includes all of the above, plus padded attacker scenario training for realistic practice.
Open Practice/General Physical Training
In addition, the Nebraska Hapkido Association school is open twice a month for open practice. Students of the school who wish to work
out more often in the training environment may come in and use the equipment to work out. Many people find this a
good time for extra partner work for specific techniques. An instructor will be available during this time for correction, or direction
with regard to good training techniques, or a physical training schedule. Please see the Schedule of Classes page for details on mat fees for open practice sessions. For people interested in sparring, the General Practice times are ideal for finding a partner and working out. A list of sparring types available is provided, along with a student waiver that needs to be signed by the parents/guardians of all minor students wishing to spar during general practice outside of their own regular class style.
We have created a Comparison Page to show you directly what the different goals and objectives are for each type of class. In addition, please take a look at our Schedule of Classes for class times, fees, and other information. We have several qualified instructors for our various classes, and our arts are not combined or diluted--meaning the Hapkido class is not an adjunct to the Taekwondo class, nor is the Tai Chi class taught merely as slow interpretive dance. Every style we provide, we teach as a complete, separate martial art. Feel free to come by our school and observe a class--the instructors and students will be happy to discuss our arts with you.
